Allāhumma innaka khalaqta nafsī wa Anta tawaffāhā, laka mamātuhā wa maḥyāhā, in aḥyaytahā fa-ḥfaẓhā, wa in amattahā fa-ghfir lahā, Allāhumma innī as’aluka-l-ʿāfiyah.
O Allah, verily You have created my soul and You shall take its life. To You Alone belongs its life and death. If You keep my soul alive then protect it, and if You take it away, then forgive it. O Allah, I ask You to grant me well-being.
اے اللہ تو نے میری جان کو پیدا کیا ہے اور تو ہی اس کی جان لے گا۔ اس کی زندگی اور موت آپ ہی کے لیے ہے۔ اگر تو نے میری جان کو زندہ رکھا تو اس کی حفاظت فرما، اور اگر تو نے اسے چھین لیا تو اسے معاف فرما۔ اے اللہ میں تجھ سے سوال کرتا ہوں کہ مجھے عافیت عطا فرما۔
ʿAbdullah b. ʿUmar (radiy Allāhū ‘anhumā) narrates that he instructed a man to say [the above] when going to sleep. The man asked him: ‘Did you hear this from ʿUmar?’ He replied: ‘Someone better than ʿUmar; from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.’ (Aḥmad 5502)
عبداللہ بی عمر (رضی اللہ عنہ) بیان کرتے ہیں کہ انہوں نے ایک آدمی کو حکم دیا کہ وہ سوتے وقت [اوپر] کہے۔ اس شخص نے اس سے پوچھا: کیا تم نے عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے یہ سنا ہے؟، اس نے جواب دیا: کوئی عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے بہتر ہے؟ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے۔‘‘ (احمد 5502)
