Protection from Becoming Dependent on Others

Alī (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrated that a Mukatib came to him and said: “Indeed I am not capable of my Kitabah (a contract of manumission between a master and a slave according to which the slave is required to pay a certain sum of money during a specific time period in exchange for freedom) so aid me.” He said: “Should I not teach you words that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me? If you had a debt upon you similar to the mountain of Sīr, Allah would fulfill it for you. He said: ‘Say: [the above]. (Tirmidhī 3563)

علی رضی اللہ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ ایک مکاتب ان کے پاس آیا اور کہا: میں اپنی کتاب (آقا اور غلام کے درمیان آزاد کرنے کا معاہدہ جس کے مطابق غلام کو آزادی کے بدلے میں ایک خاص مدت میں ایک خاص رقم ادا کرنے کی ضرورت ہے) پر قادر نہیں ہوں، لہٰذا میری مدد کریں۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: کیا میں تمہیں وہ کلمات نہ سکھاؤں جو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھے سکھائے ہیں، اگر تم پر سیر کے پہاڑ کے برابر قرض ہوتا تو اللہ تعالیٰ اسے پورا کر دیتا، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ” کہو: [ترمذی 3563]
